Nhu An Lam | MSc, LMHC

LICENSED MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR

Counseling for Adults (18+)

Nhu An ( pronounced Noo-Anne) is a therapist who is experienced in working with a diverse population and with a variety of presenting issues such as complex trauma, relationship issues, grief, self-esteem issues, co-occurring disorders, and burn out.

She enjoys connecting with others on a deeper level and building strong therapeutic relationships. She is particularly interested in helping individuals identify their strengths and the values that are important to them to help them heal and live the life they truly desire. Nhu An also strongly believes that people are able to change and heal especially when they feel safe and heard in the therapeutic relationship. Her role is to listen attentively to individuals’ stories and help them discover healthier ways to see themselves, find meaning, and discover new possibilities to move forward.

Nhu An uses a variety of techniques to help individuals where they are at. She may ask solution-focused questions, questions that elicit a description of their goals, hopes and dreams, and questions that help explore times when they overcame obstacles or found strengths and resources to be successful. She can teach coping skills such as emotional regulation skills, mindfulness skills, and interpersonal effectiveness skills. She is flexible in her approach and enjoys engaging individuals in creative activities to promote self reflection and personal growth. She believes that therapeutic writing activities can be powerful tools to help guide individuals to re-author their lives and gain insight into ways to live more hopeful and authentic lives.

Nhu An is a mother of two children. She is originally from Canada and is of Vietnamese ethnic background. She may connect well with those going through the perinatal period, working on family relationships, exploring their cultural identities, as well as exploring family of origin issues.

Outside of the office, she enjoys playing with her children and partner, doing creative activities such as journaling and scrapbooking, bicycling, watching movies, playing video games, and traveling.
